Conquering Fears When Rescuing: Tips from Mako’s Family

The Frost Fund team is truly grateful that Ashleigh (Mako’s adopter) believes in second chances. Through Frost Fund’s Red List Rescue advocacy campaign and the power of social media, Ashleigh saw Mako’s urgent story and need for rescue.  Mako had been placed on the red list and with only six days before his euthanasia – date Ashley met Mako and the bond was instant.

Mako was brought to the Long Beach Animal Care Services as a stray. Due to the stress of being in an overcrowded shelter, Mako quickly lost weight and began to deteriorate in health and mood.  However, God was preparing Mako’s second chance at finding a home.  Although hesitant and somewhat fearful at first Ashley and her family quickly knew that Mako was the missing piece that their home needed.

Take a minute to watch a recent Frost Fund interview on Instagram or YouTube, that our CEO Brittnei Schaeffler conducted with Ashleigh and Mako. Maybe what you learn will inspire you to either adopt or foster our current red list rescue pup – or simply to learn more about the shelter crisis in America right now.

The happy ending to Mako’s story would not have been possible without the Red List Rescue team and all our supporters that helped raise awareness for this amazing canine. If you were a part of this effort in any big or small way – THANK YOU!

If you would like to hear more about Mako’s journey, and what his adopter had to say about his adoption, you can find the post Red List Rescue interview on our YouTube Channel (or simply watch below).
