Meet Chachi
Meet Chachi
Chachi is a 2-year-old German Shepherd currently on the urgent list at Long Beach Animal Care Services. He has been in the shelter for over 100 days after being taken in by animal control from a heartbreaking 20-dog hoarding situation, where he was found tied to the side of an RV.
Despite his difficult past, Chachi is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, and ready for a committed, experienced adopter. He would thrive in a calm, structured home that can provide him with decompression time, consistent training, daily physical activity, mental stimulation, and—most importantly—the opportunity to learn what love and stability truly are.
According to the shelter, Chachi does well with people and other friendly dogs. However, after such a prolonged stay in a kennel environment, he has begun to show stress-induced behaviors—an unfortunate but understandable response for a highly intelligent and energetic breed like a German Shepherd. A shelter is simply not a healthy or appropriate long-term environment for him.
Chachi is affectionate, playful, and eager to bond. Due to his unknown and likely negative experiences during the hoarding situation, he has occasionally been observed barking at some unfamiliar men. That said, he interacts extremely well and warmly with shelter staff he knows—both male and female—which suggests this behavior can be addressed with patience, trust-building, and training.
What Chachi truly needs is a chance: a way out of the shelter, time to decompress, professional guidance, and a dedicated adopter—ideally someone experienced with German Shepherds or rescue dogs—who is willing to invest in his healing and growth.
Chachi has already endured so much. With the right home, he has every potential to become a loyal, loving companion.
