Red List Rescue: Baxter needs us!

Meet Baxter — a 1.5-year-old German Shepherd/Akita mix with a heart of gold and a story of survival that will break and heal your heart all at once.

Found as a stray in April with a devastating leg injury, Baxter had to undergo a full amputation from the hip down. But through it all, he has never lost his loving spirit or his trust in people! Now it’s time for us to step up and help him.

Today, Baxter is happy, neutered, vaccinated, crate/potty trained, and LOVES people, dogs, and even kids. He knows basic commands, enjoys playtime, and is the perfect mix of goofy and gentle.

All this incredible boy needs now is a family. Someone to see beyond the missing leg and recognize the unshakable spirit of a dog who’s overcome so much and still gives love so freely.

Due to his amputation, it’s recommended he has a few shorter walks throughout the day to stay healthy. Baxter is the total package. And sadly… he’s on the URGENT list at the Long Beach Animal Care Shelter. His time is running out.
