Tapas Red List Rescue Story!

In January 2023, Frost Fund and our Red List Rescue missions were just starting. It’s amazing how a small idea to help shelter animals grew into what Frost Fund is two and a half years later. Tomorrow, we’re sharing an update on Tapas—now thriving thanks to Connie Ballestero and all of you.

This rescue mission was nonstop 24/7 work over the past week and a half and I couldn’t have been close to making it happen without every single one of you who stepped up, advocated, tagged, shared, and kept fighting for him. Tapas has been homeless his whole life and had been in the Long Beach shelter for over 200 days. But thanks to Roberta Jacobs for bringing him to my attention and advocating so incredibly hard for him-to Woof Project Rescue for being able to support his rescue from the shelter & his amazing foster Jacely Fuentes -he’s now on the hunt to find his new home! Before entering the shelter, Tapas was owned by a homeless individual who unfortunately brought him along when he broke into a home. The homeowners returned upon the break in and a fight ensued with the owner of Tapas and the arriving homeowners. Like a good dog, Tapas did what any dog would do and tried to protect his owner by biting the arm of one of the homeowners. His owner was taken into custody and unfortunately Tapas was then taken to the shelter. Since that unfortunate break in, he has shown zero aggression towards anyone or any other dogs. The volunteers at the shelter even claimed him as one of their favorites! But because people judge him by his “bite” history, he never got one inquiry for adoption. This is wrong and unfair and no dog should have to go without a home or be euthanized because they are stereotyped, or for defending their people.

Thank God for the cops, animal control, Long Beach Animal Care Shelter, and even the bite victim, for advocating for his life, understanding he was set up for failure by his previous owner.
