In the rescue world, you really can never predict when or what the next mission will be. There often is no “I’ll get to it later” as situations are urgent and time is limited. That was exactly the case with these two incredible pups sitting in 90 degrees weather, in their own filth, waiting for help.
Here’s the summed up story with notes Frost Fund would like to share: While at work, Brittnei received a message/pic showing the inhumane conditions these pups were being kept in. While juggling multiple projects she did what she could to try and make a plan. First, she called animal control & asked they go down to see what could be done. They called back & shared they instructed the breeders to move them into a more shaded area, but there was nothing beyond that they could do. (Reminder: animal control is operating under minimal care laws for animals that need to be changed so that under their jurisdiction they CAN do more in situations like this.) But because the pups had a food/water bowl and were able to relatively move within their cage, according to poorly outlined laws, they were not doing anything “wrong.” (This is where WE AS HUMANS have to be and do better without needing laws to tell us we should.)
So, amongst many messages/calls, one experienced foster reached out to Frost Fund and shared she often works with Shiloh’s Animal Rescue to foster and if they were willing to support the fostering – she could take both pups that day.
(Frost Fund is a young nonprofit with minimal financial resources, so it is very hard for us to commit to supporting fosters without knowing how long before adoption might take place. (Hopefully more donations & support will help that change in the future.))
We were willing to start a fundraiser to pay the $1,200 to get the dogs out, but we needed next steps from there. Thankfully, Shiloh’s Animal Rescue agreed to supporting the fostering & the plan was set. Frost Fund would pay the ridiculous $1,200 breeder fee to save the pups & later take them to foster with the support of Shiloh’s Animal Rescue.
Breeding has to stop. Dogs in shelter are dying everyday and pups like these suffer unnecessarily. If you feel lead to help us continue our life-saving efforts, please donate to Frost Fund:
