If you follow us on social media, you already know that we are neck deep in helping transport abandoned or displaced animals during this tragic time of continued wildfires. However, we are taking things one step further to try and alleviate some of the stress one local shelter is feeling during this time. As you already know, shelters in CA are extremely overcrowded and euthanasia is taking place at disgusting rates. However, when you add multiple fast moving fires to the situation, it only gets worse. People are being directed to relocate abandoned or found cats and dogs to shelters for safety. This is a nice idea, but in reality, this couldn’t be harder on everyone (both people and animals). Shelters are already struggling with thin resources and space (if that), so intaking new animals only means one thing for those currently on the red list.

Realizing this, I contacted our friends at Boulder Humane Society in Colorado to see if they would be willing to have Frost Fund bring in another transport of cats from the Riverside shelter (very near to the fire zones and counties). Thankfully, they said yes! Since then, I have been planning and coordinating the transfer of precious cats from this shelter to Boulder, Colorado – where they will be lovingly cared for and quickly adopted. This takes a team to make happen! Shelters to agree, timing to align, cats to be cleared by vets, drivers to be available, and funds to be provided for necessary transport resources like kennels, gas, blankets, food, litter, bowls, and time to name a few.

We are extremely grateful to be able to play a small part in saving the lives of these cats while also making a little more room for those incoming, and hopefully mitigating some euthanasias in the process.
