If you are looking for some good news to start your day – you have found it! Just a few weeks ago, we were able to save one of the most sweet and tender-hearted dogs I have ever met from euthanasia at the Lancaster shelter. This was a shelter I had never been too before and if I am being honest, one of the worst I have ever seen. My heart breaks for all animals in shelters, but this was a different story. However, the purpose of this post is to highlight the incredible outcome and the life Duke now has! Please enjoy reading the caption/story below taken straight from our Instagram. And don’t forget to watch his 90 second rescue story using the link below as well. Thank you for supporting Frost Fund and share Duke’s story with anyone else you think might like to see!
The story (as shared on Instagram):
Duke’s mission was unique from most we others we take on. What started as a mission to save another red listed dog named King, turned into (what I believe was always meant to be) Duke’s freedom day.
Two days before this roadtrip to Duke, we helped our friend @tomokito007 share about a dog named King who was also red listed. After a few reposts, we had an interested adopter contact us. And as Frost Fund knows, every second counts when animals are red listed. So, once I received confirmation from the adopter, I jumped in my car & headed for the Lancaster shelter.
While on the way, I received word from @savingurgentshelterpets that King’s original owner was coming back to get him that day. But since I was already well on the way, I decided to call the adopter I was communicating with to see if they would be willing to save another life. And to my amazement – THEY WERE. It takes an incredible soul to bring a dog into a home that they had only seen one picture of (and that Frost Fund had minimal knowledge of, which is so unlike our normal approach to Red List Rescues). To sum it up, all of us were going in blind for Duke – but just like in faith – thats sometimes the only way forward.
So, I completed the long drive, picked him up, headed back home (got lost without GPS in the Angeles National Forest for an hour), then finally made it back to his incredible adopters @chaos_party_of_9 and @melrules1 ♥️
Duke – despite being in such horrible conditions for many months – could not have been a happier, kinder, or sweeter soul. He’s proof that light shines in the darkness and it is always worth fighting for. His resilience and love for life – despite being days away from euthanasia – should remind us all just how much these animals need OUR help.
Something inside me changed after this mission. I am in high gear. This won’t be the last rescue from Lancaster Frost Fund completes.
Thank you to everyone who encouraged & sent gas money. PLEASE – WE ARE FUNDRAISING FOR A TRANSPORT VEHICLE. So we can get more animals out of shelters & to adopters/out of state shelters. Please consider donating to Frost Fund to help us achieve this goal!
