Frost Fund’s latest Red List Rescue, Lightning, has been added to our ever growing list of successful Red List Rescues. Not too long ago Lightning’s future and very survival was uncertain. Thanks to a gracious adopter he now has a second chance at life and a wonderful purpose to serve.
Lightning is a ten month old Belgian Malinois that found himself as one of many dogs in an animal shelter in Southern California. Due to stress induced behavior, an unfortunately common occurrence especially in larger breed dogs, he was red listed and set to be euthanized to make room for more incoming dogs. Thankfully, Fund Was able to find Lightning a loving forever home before his euthanasia date was reached.
Firstly, why was a loving, youthful, and spirited dog like Lightning red listed so quickly? Overcrowding plays a part, as many shelters are filling up faster than they can get dogs adopted, but LIghtning was also experiencing stress due to his breed’s need for space and activity. Frost Fund is doing what we can, one rescue at time, to save the lives of amazing dogs who deserve a second chance at life. Not only does this save the subject of our red list rescue, it provides more room for that shelter to take on an additional dog in need. If you’d like to help save more dogs you can support our mission at Frost Fund and when hope we can encourage you to make your next pet a rescue from a shelter and save the life of a more than deserving animal.
Now for the happy stuff, Lightning’s new family! Lightning was adopted by the Paragon Service group. They are an organization that trains dogs to be detection dogs for Law Enforcement, public, and private agencies in order to locate and detect potentially dangerous items and keep people safe. After taking a while to decompress from the stress of shelter life Lightning will begin his journey into his new life serving and protecting his community.
Paragon Service Group is based in Prescott Valley, Arizona and we are so thankful that they were willing to make the drive out to California to pick up Lightning. However, this is another example of a long distance Red List Rescue going through because we were lucky enough to find an adopter willing to make the journey. In the future we would like to ensure no matter what the distance or situation is, we can ensure we can get our Red List Rescues to their forever homes and we need a transport vehicle to do that. If you’d like to see more amazing success stories like Lightning’s please consider supporting us at Frost Fund to help us fulfill our missions and continue to save amazing animals who deserve a second chance at life.
