My experience at Frost Fund has been nothing short of incredibly fulfilling, but my time building and donating enrichment items for the California Wildlife Center has put everything into a new perspective. I have been incredibly thankful to have the opportunity to do something I love by writing for a cause as important as Frost Fund’s. That being said, there is something uniquely eye opening about using your own two hands to build hawk huts, coyote benches, and assist ladders, that has stood out to me most. Knowing these will have an impact on the community and animals brings me joy.
Towards the beginning of February, Frost Fund began collecting materials for and constructing hawk huts, tire swings, scratching posts, elevated beds, and a bench for the animals in the care of the CWC. This process was quite fun as well as motivating while watching our efforts come to tangible fruition. We obtained the raw materials from donations as well as purchasing some with money from our donors to Frost Fund. We then began constructing the Hawk Huts, scratching post, and bench as shown on our Instagram page. I learned a lot building these projects and received new experience working with tools in a way I have never before.
The following weekend, we headed to the California Wildlife Center in Los Angeles County in order to donate and install the items we had constructed. This day was one of the most rewarding I have had with Frost Fund. We unloaded our donations and began bringing them to the animal enclosures. Along the way, we saw some of the animals who would benefit from our donations and it brought what we were doing into a new light. Not only seeing these creatures in person, but witnessing the need they had and how their care would be improved with our donations was a feeling of pure goodness that is difficult to describe.
After we finished installing the tire swings, bench, and scratching post to the enclosures, we gifted further enrichment items to the CWC and I was able to conduct an interview with the Hospital Manager, Jennifer Guess which is linked below. In this interview we discussed how our donations helped the CWC and how your donations to non-profit organizations can have a real world impact on your community.
It cannot be overstated how enlightening this project was. Not only was I fortunate enough to see how my own work had an impact on my community, but to witness how much we were able to accomplish through the generous donations of our supporters. This day cemented the fact that every little bit helps and everyone can be a positive influence for change.
We will be sharing more videos from our enrichment donations to come. So please stay tuned and make sure to follow us on Instagram (@frost_fund).
Thank you!
